Getting started

How do I scan a sign?
From the home screen, tap Snap a sign, frame the whole pole in the viewfinder (all the plates, not just one), and tap the shutter. We read the signs together so overlapping rules get interpreted correctly.
Why does the app need my camera?
The only way to read a parking sign is to see it. We take exactly one photo per scan and send it to Google's Gemini AI to read the sign. We keep it for up to 30 days to check the verdict was right, then delete it. It's never linked to you.

Accuracy

Is this legal advice?
No. Park Sorted is a convenience tool that reads parking signs with a vision model. Signs change, rules are complex, and models make mistakes. Always double-check the physical sign — the disclaimer at the bottom of every verdict says the same.
What if the scan is wrong?
If a verdict looks off, check the top of the page — when our model is uncertain you'll see a warning band explaining why. Re-frame the sign so every plate is visible and scan again. If we still get it wrong, tap Wrong verdict? under the verdict — it emails us the scan's reference so we can see exactly what went wrong. We read every one.
The signs on the pole are confusing. Can you tell me which applies right now?
Yes. The sign currently in force gets an "ACTIVE NOW" badge inside the How AI read it section. The two side cards at the top show you the summary for left and right of the pole so you don't have to match arrows yourself.

Data & privacy

What data do you collect?
The photo you scan, which is sent to Google's Gemini AI to read the sign and kept for up to 30 days so we can check the verdict was right, then deleted. Each scan is stored with the time and rough location but no name, account or device ID, so it can't be linked back to you. We also show a shared scan count on the home screen. The full Privacy policy is in Settings.
Do you track where I park?
Only when you tap Remember my park on a verdict — that saves the location on your device so you can find your car later. To show a street address, the location is sent once to Google to look it up; we don't keep it.

Web vs iOS

How is the iOS app different?
Same scanner, same reasoning. The iOS app is in testing now and coming to the App Store soon. It adds things only a native app can do: Live Activity countdowns on the lock screen, haptic feedback, Siri shortcuts, and a dedicated Action Button hand-off for one-press scanning on iPhone 15 Pro and later.
